By June 2011 I was really overweight and depressed about it. (I now know that I was borderline obese). Lots of my clothes didn’t fit anymore and I didn’t feel good about myself. Things changed thanks to the personal trainers at Purple Mustard convincing me that it didn’t have to be like this and that if I started to follow some fairly simple rules about eating and drinking I could lose weight. It didn’t mean going on a diet as such; just changing the kind of things I ate. It worked and as the weight came off my motivation grew stronger, thanks to the monitoring progress with regular weigh-ins to provide me with even more evidence that things were changing for the better.
That was stage 1. By November we decided that it was time to build-in some serious exercise into the strategy and I began with regular 1-2-1 training sessions. As a friend said to me, don’t look at this as a cost, see it as an investment. I’ve amazed myself at how I’ve begun to make up for years of neglect in this regard and to enjoy the (sometimes hard) work-outs in the gym.
Again, gradually I can see the improvement in my strength and fitness. All in all the past 18 months have been an amazing journey and I’ve gone further than I ever thought possible. Added together the changes in diet plus the training sessions have enabled me to shed approx. 17kg, or to put it another way, I weighed 15st3lbs at the beginning and 12st9lbs at the last count. While I’m prepared to take some of the credit most of it goes to the dedicated team at Purple Mustard Studios.
